The Story of Bob – Chapter Six

At his first year anniversary with The Company, Bob received a promotion to Head of Warehouse Operations. He was also now the Improvement Committee chair. He was becoming very well- respected in the organization.

In his second year on the committee, he was responsible for instituting an online employee portal where employees could now review their pay stubs and were able to request information changes, instead of using the dreaded paper change form. Managers were now able to review employee information and electronically route their approvals. When Marge retired from HR, they didn’t have to hire a replacement. More money to the bottom line!

About a year later, the Operations Manager retired. Bob was offered the position, and he accepted. His first goal was to automate the manufacturing process. This was a “sacred cow,” and nobody tried to mess with the manufacturing department. Bob knew the reported manufacturing costs weren’t accurate and that The Company was losing money on some of the jobs they quoted. In addition, the Accounting Department was spending way too much time working on manufacturing variances.
